Week 1 of the 2022 Fall Vancouver Super League season has wrapped up. It was great getting back into the gym and competing in front of an audience once again.
Week 1 featured 3 exhibition matches, allowing teams the opportunity to shake off some rust, work on different lineups and tactics, and figure out some of the unique aspects of the VSL.
The first match up at 4 pm saw league regulars team GLC competing against the Capilano University Blues. A bigger bench and lots of youthful enthusiasm helped the Blues find some success against the veteran GLC men but ultimately fall 3 – 1 (25-23, 19-25, 25-18, 25-23).
The second 6 pm match had Apex Volleyball Club playing against newcomers 604 Volleyball Club. The experience and familiarity of the Apex team carried them past the athleticism and energy of the 604 Club 3 – 0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-22). 604 will be a team to keep an eye on as the season progresses and they become more familiar with the league.
The final 8 pm match of the night had League sponsor Dunbar Cycles playing current reigning league champions Duradek. This was a classic 5 set match with teams trading blows and shaking off rust. In the end, the serve and pass game from Duradek was superior and carried the team to a 3-2 win (29-31,25-19, 25-19, 23-25, 15-9).
